Youth counseling is interaction daily or weekly with children or teens, helping them to solve problems and make healthy choices. They counsel them and guide them in a positive direction for their futures. They do crisis intervention when necessary, and help youngsters to prepare for rehabilitation after criminal difficulties or substance abuse issues. They develop relationships with the youth individually or in groups, and build trust with them. They provide a structured environment for at-risk youngsters. They are sometimes responsible for the safety and security of the physical environment of a facility, and might have to physically restrain youngsters who get out of control during periods of crisis.
